Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian in Rockville

***Update: November 6, 2020: Jose Amaya Flores’ family has been located. 


Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning in Rockville.  

On Monday, November 2, at approximately 5:55 a.m., 6th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Shady Grove Road at Briardale Road for the report of a personal injury collision.   

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian, Jose Amaya Flores, age 59, of an unknown address, was crossing northbound Shady Grove Road in a westerly direction when he was struck by a 2017 Honda Ridgeline traveling north on Shady Grove Road.  A 2014 Toyota Prius, also traveling northbound on Shady Grove Road, then struck the rear of the Honda Ridgeline.  The Honda Ridgeline was driven by Matthew Taylor, age 54, of Gaithersburg, and the Toyota Prius was driven by Sandra Valladares, age 46, oLaytonsville. 

Amaya Flores was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Valladares was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  Taylor was not injured in the collision.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian in Germantown

***Update (November 2, 2020): The pedestrian is identified as Kenneth Charles Zirkle, age 61, of an unknown address.  Detectives have been unable to locate any of Zirkle’s family members and are asking anyone with information on possible family members of Zirkle to please call detectives at: 240-773-6620.

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred yesterday afternoon in Germantown.

On Friday, October 30, at approximately 2:35 p.m., 5th District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Germantown Road at Middlebrook Road for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Germantown Road onto westbound Middlebrook Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was struck by a 2012 Toyota Camry that was traveling south on Germantown Road and was driven by Vera M Dydson-Dzissah, age 43, of Germantown.

The adult male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.  He will be identified after his family is notified.***

Dydson-Dzissah was not injured in the collision.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Colesville Area

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist that occurred yesterday evening in the Colesville area.

On Friday, October 23, at approximately 8:20 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Norbeck Road at Llewellyn Manor Way for the report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 motorcycle was traveling west on Norbeck Road approaching Llewellyn Manor Way.  A 2007 Toyota Prius was traveling on Llewellyn Manor Way and attempting to cross Norbeck Road to enter Northwest Branch Recreational Park. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle and the Prius collided in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, identified as Christian Richardson, age 24, of Dumbarton Drive in Rockville, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Richardson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Prius, identified as Tatiana Ogundeko, age 22, of Rushland Court in Waldorf, and an adult female passenger were not injured in the collision.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in White Oak Area

Update: 10/19/2020 – The driver of the Toyota Corolla has been identified as Woyneshet Armide Ayele, age 72, of Beacon Road in Silver Spring.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning in the White Oak area.

On Sunday, October 18, at approximately 1:09 a.m., 3rd District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Columbia Pike and Industrial Parkway for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by CRU detectives determined that a 2010 Toyota Corolla was making a left turn onto southbound Columbia Pike from Industrial Parkway when it collided with a 2018 Honda Accord that was traveling north on Columbia Pike.

The driver (and sole occupant) of the Toyota Corolla, an adult female, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Her identity will be released once family is notified.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Marvin De Jesus Salinas Rodas, age 31, of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring, and his passenger, Martin Gutierrez Cruz, age 21, of Mount Rainier, Maryland, were transported to local hospitals with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Update: Bicycle-Involved Collision in Gaithersburg Now Fatal

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now fatal bicycle-involved collision that occurred on October 9 in Gaithersburg.

The bicyclist, previously identified as 36-year-old Jose Lopez Hernandez of Mountain Ash Way in Gaithersburg, succumbed to his injuries on Monday, October 12 at an area hospital.
