Detectives Investigate Bicycle-Involved Collision in Bethesda

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious bicycle-involved collision that occurred last evening in Bethesda.

On Friday, November 8, at approximately 5:45 p.m., 2nd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Old Georgetown Road at the entrance ramp for the inner loop of Interstate 495 (I-495) for the report of a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2006 Toyota Camry, driven by Nanak Singh Manku, age 83, of McLean, Virginia, had exited the inner loop of I-495 onto southbound Old Georgetown Road and was attempting to re-enter the inner loop of I-495 on the northbound side of Old Georgetown Road.  During this attempt, the Toyota struck a 13-year-old female who was riding her bicycle in the crosswalk of northbound Old Georgetown Road at the entrance ramp to the inner loop of I-495.

The juvenile bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Camry, Manku, was not injured.
