Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested Daivon Marquez Belt, age 20, of the 100 block of Ingraham Street in Northwest, Washington, D.C., for the July 18 carjacking and kidnapping of three juveniles that occurred on Arliss Street in Silver Spring. Belt has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and carjacking.

On July 18 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a woman parked her car and accompanied by her daughter, entered the Capital One Bank located at 8740 Arliss Street. Three additional family members: a two-year-old female, a nine-year-old male, and a 15-year old female, remained in the back seat of the vehicle. The suspect entered the vehicle and began driving out of the parking lot. (The car was running and the keys were in the ignition). The 15-year-old female victim observed what appeared to be a black handgun in the suspect’s pocket. The suspect drove to an apartment complex parking lot located in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road. He told the oldest victim to give him money and she complied. The suspect let the children out of the vehicle and then fled from the area in the stolen vehicle. The victims were not injured during the incident.

Two days later (July 20), the victim’s vehicle was located unoccupied on Greenlawn Drive in Hyattsville. Personnel from the MCP Crime Scene Unit processed the vehicle for physical evidence, including latent fingerprints and DNA. Prints believed to belong to the suspect were obtained from the victim’s vehicle and sent to the Regional Automated Fingerprint Identification System database (RAFIS). On July 23, detectives received a fingerprint match to Daivon Marquez Belt and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On Monday, August 19, Belt was arrested on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant in Washington, D.C. Belt was extradited to Montgomery County on August 20 where he is currently being held without bond.
