Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the August 9 armed carjacking of a 30-year-old male that occurred in Silver Spring. Today, detectives are releasing surveillance video of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s help to identify them.
On Thursday, August 9 at approximately 8:42 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the Sheraton hotel located at 8777 Georgia Avenue for the report of an armed carjacking that had just occurred in the hotel’s parking garage.
The investigation by detectives revealed that the victim was returning to his parked vehicle inside the parking garage of the hotel when he was approached by one of the suspects. This suspect, who was armed with a handgun, confronted the victim and stated that he was a police officer. The victim then asked to see the suspect’s police identification. The suspect ordered the victim to put his hands in the air and then pepper-sprayed him. The second suspect, who was also armed with a handgun and whom detectives believe was acting as a lookout, then joined the first suspect in this robbery. The second suspect struck the victim on the head with his handgun and the suspects stole property, to include the victim’s car keys. The two suspects fled from the area in the victim’s vehicle. Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene and treated the victim for non-life-threatening injuries.
