Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) – Major Crimes Division have arrested Lloyd Patrick Walters, age 51, of Bradbury Manor Court in Silver Spring, for the Wednesday, September 6 homicide of 63-year-old Todd Mcdonough Pruitt. Walters has been charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
On September 6 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Walters entered the lobby of the MCPD 3rd District Police Station (located at 1002 Milestone Drive in Silver Spring) suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers began to administer first aid and called for Fire & Rescue services to respond to the police station. Walters stated that he had shot a man in a trailer and provided officers with a description of the area where the trailer was located. Walters was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Officers immediately responded to the area where Walters said the shooting had occurred and located a recreational vehicle (RV) parked on the property of a residence located in the 14000 block of Old Columbia Pike. In the RV, officers located a deceased male, identified as Pruitt, with multiple gunshot wounds. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy was performed. The Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide and the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
Walters was arrested on the strength of a criminal warrant on Friday, October 6, and was transported to the Central Processing Unit. He is being held without bond.
Detectives have determined that the encounter between Walters and the victim was not a random event.
