Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 1st District Investigative Section continue to investigate the July 11 assault of a Ride On bus driver that occurred on a Ride On bus in Rockville. Today, investigators are releasing a surveillance photograph of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
On Tuesday, July 11 at approximately 12:59 a.m., 1st District officers responded to the Shady Grove Metro Station located at 15903 Somerville Drive for the report of an assault that had just occurred.
The investigation by detectives determined that several passengers, to include the adult male suspect, boarded the Ride On bus at the Shady Grove Metro Station. After all the passengers had boarded, the adult male victim, drove the bus out of the Shady Grove Metro Station parking lot toward Frederick Road. Shortly after the bus left the metro station, the suspect and the victim engaged in a verbal altercation. During the verbal altercation, the victim attempted to call the police. As the victim was contacting police, the suspect took the phone from him and began assaulting him with the phone. The suspect continued the assault until the victim stopped the bus in the 15900 block of Frederick Road and opened the doors. The suspect exited the bus and fled from the area on a bicycle that he had brought with him on the bus.
Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the bus’ location and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
