Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the November 25 armed robbery and carjacking that occurred at a Silver Spring Shell gas station. Today, investigators are releasing surveillance video of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him. Detectives believe that this same suspect previously committed three armed robberies at a nearby BP gas station.
On Friday, November 25 at approximately 6:05 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the Shell gas station located at 9510 Georgia Avenue for the report of an armed robbery of the gas station and a subsequent carjacking of a vehicle at the fuel pumps.
The preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect entered the gas station, approached the clerk, and displayed a handgun. The suspect demanded money from the cash register and Newport cigarettes. The store clerk placed the cash and the cigarettes into a plastic bag that the suspect had brought with him. The suspect then fled out of the front door of the gas station and ran towards the gas pumps. The suspect approached an adult female who was fueling her vehicle. The suspect displayed the handgun and ordered the victim to get out of her vehicle and give him her keys. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect fled from the gas station in the victim’s 2008 black Scion xD. The victim was not injured in the carjacking.
