Derrick Austin Bacon
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have charged Derrick Austin Bacon, age 41, of the 3400 block of Castleleigh Road in Beltsville for the July 24 robbery of the CVS Pharmacy located at 12209 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.
On July 24 at approximately 9:59 p.m., the suspect, now identified as Bacon, entered the CVS Pharmacy carrying a duffle bag and went to where the store’s hair care products were located. A CVS Pharmacy employee witnessed Bacon taking hair coloring and shampoo products and put them inside his duffel bag. When the employee attempted to stop Bacon from leaving the store with the stolen merchandise, Bacon threatened the employee with bodily harm. Bacon was last seen fleeing on foot on Veirs Mill Road.
On September 8, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him. A MCP 3rd District officer recognized Bacon and identified him as the suspect in the video. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Bacon and arrested him at his home on October 27.
Bacon was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and theft. Bacon was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 2nd District Investigative Section are investigating a hate-based vandalism to the Burning Tree Elementary School located at 7900 Beech Tree Road in the Westlake area of Bethesda. The vandalism was discovered yesterday morning.
On Sunday, October 30 at approximately 10:00 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Burning Tree Elementary School for the report of a vandalism to the school. A Jewish congregation holds weekly services at the school, and a congregate who was attending a service that morning discovered that images of swastikas and male genitalia had been spray painted on a Burning Tree Elementary School banner displayed near the school entrance.
Anyone with information about this vandalism and/or the suspect(s) is asked to contact the 2nd District Investigative Section at 240-773-6710. Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a now fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in Rockville on October 16. The pedestrian, Pedro Mendoza, age 54, of Gilbert Road in Rockville, succumbed to his injuries on Friday, October 28.
On Sunday, October 16 at approximately 8:50 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Norbeck Road (Route 28) and Baltimore Road in Rockville for the report of a pedestrian collision. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Jum Soon Kim of Burtonsville was operating a 1999 Acura Integra eastbound on Norbeck Road. As Kim was traveling through the intersection of Baltimore Road, she struck Mendoza, who was crossing Norbeck Road on the east side of the intersection. Mendoza was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries on October 28.

Update: October 31, 2016 (11:00 a.m.) – Aaron Watkins has been located safe and unharmed.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 2nd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s help to locate a missing Kensington area man.
Aaron Watkins, age 22, was last seen by family members at his Meredith Avenue home on Friday, October 28 at approximately 6:15 p.m. Mr. Watkins utilizes a wheelchair for mobility and he is familiar with public transportation.
Aaron Watkins is described as an African-American male, 6’2” tall, and weighing 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt.
Police and family members are concerned for Watkins’ emotional and physical welfare.

Update: October 31, 2016 (11:00 a.m.) – Michael Wilder has been located safe and unharmed.
Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Silver Spring man.
On Friday, October 28, Michael Craig Wilder, 53 years old, walked away from his residence, an assisted living facility, located at 8301 Barron Street in Silver Spring.
Wilder is described as a white male, 5′ 6″ tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has graying hair and graying facial hair. He is believed to be wearing a gray skull cap, a dark colored denim jacket, black jeans, and dark colored shoes. He does not have his medication with him.
Police and family are concerned for his welfare. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Michael Craig Wilder is urged to contact police at 301.279.8000.
