Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle, single-occupant, fatal collision that occurred early this morning in the Colesville area.  They are also investigating a second, single-vehicle collision that occurred in the same area at approximately the same time that may be related to the fatal collision.

At approximately 6:55 a.m. and then at 6:56 a.m., The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received 9-1-1 calls reporting two separate, serious single-vehicle collisions in the same area.  Officers from both the 3rd and 4th Districts along with Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 200 block of Randolph Road and to the area of Randolph Road and New Hampshire Avenue for the collisions.

At the Randolph Road scene, preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound in the 200 block of Randolph Road just prior to Locksley Lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.  The vehicle came to rest in a residential yard.  The driver, identified as Victoria Millicent Hitchins, age 71, of the 14500 block of Barkwood Drive in Rockville, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

At the New Hampshire Avenue scene, a separate investigation revealed that a black 2005 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling eastbound on Randolph Road and attempted to turn south onto New Hampshire Avenue, when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.  The 20-year-old male driver, Ousmane William Mohamed Barry from Palmyra, Virginia, was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

These collisions remain under investigation. Anyone with information about either of these collisions is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
