Detectives from the 4th District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Wheaton area on Friday, May 13. Detectives are releasing photographs of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help to identify him.
On Friday, May 13 at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (911) received several calls for a shooting that had just occurred on Layhill Road between Georgia Avenue and Glenallen Avenue. 4th District officers located the adult male victim in the area; he was unharmed. Officers also located and recovered multiple shell casings.
Investigation has revealed that the victim was walking on the southbound sidewalk of Layhill Road approaching Georgia Avenue when he and the suspect became involved in an argument. The male suspect backed away from the victim and began walking on the sidewalk toward Glenallan Avenue. As the suspect walked, he removed a silver handgun from his person and began shooting at the victim. The suspect then ran north on Layhill Road, firing two more shots over his shoulder at the victim. The victim was not struck. The suspect was last seen running away in the area of Glenallan Avenue.
The suspect is described as an African American male, approximately 5’11”, with a skinny build and short black hair. He was wearing a blue jean jacket over a white tank top that had the letters “Ocean City” written in dark writing on it, black pants, and white and black shoes.
