Detectives from the 1st District Investigative Section are investigating four commercial burglaries that have occurred in September in Potomac and are believed to have been committed by the same suspect.
- On September 4 at approximately 12:25 a.m., patrol officers from the 1st District responded to an alarm at the Sunoco gas station located to the rear of the Cabin John Shopping Center at 11355 Seven Locks Road. Investigation revealed that an unknown suspect broke the glass in the door to the store area, entered the store, and attempted to force open the ATM located inside the store. Nothing of value was taken in this burglary.
- On September 5 at approximately 3:23 a.m., officers responded to another alarm at the Potomac Sunoco. Investigation revealed that the suspect broke the glass (replaced the day before) in the door and entered the Sunoco. Once inside, the suspect removed the cash register and carried it toward the door. Investigators believe he dropped the register on the floor to force it open so that he could remove cash. In surveillance photos detectives have previously released, the suspect appears to be concealing his head and face with a hood or t-shirt.
- Approximately ten minutes later at 3:32 a.m. (on September 5), 1st District officers responded to a commercial burglary alarm at the Potomac Express Food and Deli at 12960 Travilah Road. As in the previous burglaries, the glass door was broken and a suspect entered the deli. After entering the deli, the suspect attempted to force open the ATM but was unsuccessful. The suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash in the open register.
- On September 17 at approximately 2:53 a.m., officers responded to an alarm at the Sunoco gas station located at 11355 Seven Locks Road. The suspect broke the front window and obtained cigarettes. As seen in surveillance photos released today, the suspect concealed his face.
