Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Olney

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department- Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a single-vehicle, fatal collision that occurred early this morning in Olney.

At approximately 4:11 a.m., officers and Fire&Rescue personnel responded to the area of Hines Road at Blossom View Drive for the report of a collision.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Hines Road (towards Georgia Avenue) when for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway just prior to Blossom View Drive and struck a tree and light support pole.  The 29-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 43-year-old female passenger was declared deceased at the scene of the collision.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor in this fatal collision.

The driver is identified as Robert Walter Lee, age 29, of the unit block of Whetstone Drive in Gaithersburg.  The deceased passenger is identified as Lisa Ann Smith, age 43, of the 17400 block of Gallagher Way in Olney.

UPDATE: Collision on Democracy Boulevard Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal three vehicle collision.

The passenger of the Toyota Camry, identified as Betty Nelson, age 88, of the 1900 block of Frontage Road in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, succumbed to her injuries.  The collision has now been reclassified as fatal.

On November 29 at approximately 11:34 a.m., Montgomery County Police responded to a collision on Democracy Boulevard at the ramp from southbound I-270 involving a 2004 Toyota Camry, a 2012 Ford F250 (owned by Montgomery County Government), and a 2008 Mercedes. Montgomery County Fire Rescue transported all persons involved in the collision to a local hospital. One of the passengers of the Toyota Camry, an 88 year old female, had life threatening injuries. All others involved had non-life threatening injuries.

This collision remains under investigation. Detectives are looking into the traffic light cycle at the time of the incident. Any witnesses are urged to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

Update: Wheaton Woman Located

Carman Ibar, reported missing earlier this evening, has been located unharmed in White Oak.  She has been reunited with family.  Police thank the public and media outlets for their assistance in publicizing this missing persons case.

Concern For Missing Wheaton Woman

Carmen IbarCarman Ibar, 70 years old, was last seen today at approximately 3:00 p.m. at her residence in the 12600 block of English Orchard Court in Wheaton.  At that time it is believed that she obtained keys to a family member’s vehicle and drove away.

Carmen Ibar is described as a white female, 5′ 3″ tall, and weighing 140 pounds.  At the time of her disappearance she was wearing navy blue pants and a light blue sweater.  She has brown hair in a pony tail.  She is wearing a long silver and gold colored necklace that is shown in the photo.  The vehicle she is believed to be driving is a gray 2010 Toyota Corolla with Maryland license plates 8AD3163.

Ms. Ibar is known to frequent her former address in the 4700 block of Iris Street in Aspen Hill, the Glenmont McDonalds, the Shriver Aquatic Center in North Bethesda, and the nearby McDonalds located at Marinelli Road and Rockville Pike.

Police and family are concerned because Ms. Ibar has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and does not normally drive.  If anyone knows the whereabouts of Carmen Ibar or the 2010 Toyota they are asked to immediately call 9-1-1.  Callers may remain anonymous.
