Detectives Investigate Bank Robberies in Wheaton and Silver Spring Committed by Same Suspect

Published on May 1, 2014 by in Press Releases

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating two bank robberies that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect.  The first bank robbery occurred on April 28 at a Capital One Bank in Wheaton.  The second bank robbery occurred today at a SunTrust Bank in Silver Spring.

On April 28, at approximately 1:02 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the Capital One Bank located at 11241 Georgia Avenue for a report of a bank robbery.  Investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a note demanding money.  The note implied that the suspect had a weapon, but a weapon was not seen.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

Today, at approximately 11:53 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the SunTrust Bank inside of the Safeway located at 13814 Outlet Drive for a report of a bank robbery.  Investigation revealed that the suspect approached the teller and passed a note.  When the teller hesitated, the suspect grabbed the note back and fled from the bank.  He did not obtain any cash.

Today, detectives are releasing photographs of the suspect in both bank robberies and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

Detectives believe that the suspect in these bank robberies is also responsible for the April 21 robbery of another Capital One Bank in Silver Spring.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect involved in these bank robberies is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of this suspect.  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
