Concern for Juvenile Missing from Kensington

shayla franklinDetectives from the Montgomery County Police – Family Crimes Division are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a juvenile missing from Kensington.

Shayla Marie Franklin, age 16, of the 11300 block of Connecticut Avenue was last seen on December 17, 2013.  Franklin is described as a black female, 5’05” tall, and weighing 145 pounds.  She has brown eyes and black hair.  Franklin is familiar with public transportation and is known to frequent the District of Columbia.

Police and family are concerned for Franklin’s welfare as she has not been seen or heard from since her disappearance.  Additionally, Franklin has a medical condition that needs to be monitored.

Update: Detectives Continue to Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Columbia Pike

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred yesterday in Silver Spring.

Yesterday at approximately 2:23 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike (MD 29) and Tech Road for a report of a personal injury collision involving a pedestrian and a school bus.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a school bus contracted by Howard County Public Schools was traveling northbound on Columbia Pike.  The pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Columbia Pike from westbound to eastbound in the crosswalk.  The pedestrian had safely crossed the southbound lanes of Columbia Pike.  He then attempted to across the northbound lanes as the bus was traveling on a green signal and was struck by the bus.  The first two lanes of northbound Columbia Pike traffic were stopped on a red, left-turn arrow.

The pedestrian has been identified as Elia Miranski, age 91, of the 12300 block of Featherwood Drive in Silver Spring.

The bus driver has been identified as Lori Jean Latimer, age 52, of the 6600 block of Deep Run Parkway in Elkridge, Maryland.

Detectives Investigate Two Robberies at Wells Fargo Bank – Photographs of Suspect Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Major Crimes Division continue to investigate two bank robberies that are believed to have been committed by the same suspect.  Both robberies were committed at the Wells Fargo bank located at 8701 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

On Tuesday, January 21, police responded to the Wells Fargo bank for the report of a bank robbery.  At that time, police released details of the robbery and released surveillance photographs of the suspect.

On Friday, February 21, police responded to the Wells Fargo bank for the report of a bank robbery.  Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect approached the teller, produced what is described as a large kitchen knife, and demanded cash.  He left the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators believe that the robberies were committed by the same suspect based on surveillance photographs and the similar actions of the suspect.  Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect from the photos or has information about these robberies to call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.  Tipsters will remain anonymous.
