Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Gaithersburg

LightBar2012Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Friday afternoon in Gaithersburg.

On January 24 at 2:23 p.m., 6th District patrol officers and fire rescue units responded for a personal injury collision in the 7400 block of Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg.  Upon arrival, officers observed a two vehicle collision as well as two pedestrians that were struck as a result of the initial collision.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a blue 1996 Honda Accord and a blue 2004 Chrysler Sebring were both northbound on Muncaster Mill Road.  The Honda was in lane one and the Chrysler was in lane two.  As the two lanes began to merge, the vehicles collided.  The Honda struck a utility pole and the Chrysler left the roadway, struck two pedestrians that were on the sidewalk, and then struck a tree.

The two pedestrians were transported to local hospitals where one pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The second pedestrian was admitted in critical condition.  Both pedestrians attend the nearby Covenant Life School.

The drivers of the vehicles along with one occupant were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  All occupants in the vehicles attend Magruder High School.

The deceased is identified as Teressa Rosalind French, age 16, of the 800 block of Tingey Crescent SE in Washington, D.C.  The second pedestrian is identified as Emily Grace Lowe, age 13, of the 22400 block of Goshen School Road in Gaithersburg.

The driver of the Chrysler is identified as Hugo Fernando Da Silva Rompante, age 17, of the unit block of Calabar Court in Gaithersburg. Two passengers in the Chrysler are identified as Johnny Allen Boykin, Jr., age 19, of the 8200 block of Streamside Place in Gaithersburg and Keanu Ashton Lee, age 17, of the 7900 block of Badenlock Way in Gaithersburg.

The driver of the Honda is identified as Oscar Javier Fuentes, age 17, of the 8400 block of Tea Rose Drive in Gaithersburg.

The investigation is continuing but detectives believe that speed was a factor in this collision.  No charges have been placed at this time.  Once the investigation is complete, detectives will discuss the case with the State’s Attorney’s Office to determine appropriate charges.

Detectives would like to talk to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to the collision.

Detectives Investigate Silver Spring Bank Robbery-Photograph Released

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday at a Wells Fargo Bank in Silver Spring.  Today, detectives are releasing a surveillance photograph of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

On Tuesday, January 21 at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers responded to the Wells Fargo bank located at 8701 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring for the report of a bank robbery.

Investigation revealed that the male suspect entered the bank, implied that he had a weapon, and demanded cash.  The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and exited the bank.  He was last seen running on Fenwick Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6’00” tall, with a medium build.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Gaithersburg; Suspect Arrested

LightBar2012Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning in Gaithersburg.

Today at 1:49 a.m., 6th District patrol officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the 7-Eleven located at 9051 Snouffer School Road in Gaithersburg.  As patrol officers arrived on the scene, they observed a suspect exiting the store.  The suspect had what appeared to be blood on his hands and clothing.  Officers handcuffed the suspect and located a box cutter style knife with suspected blood on it in the suspect’s sweatshirt pocket.  The suspect, while handcuffed, attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended.

Inside the store, officers discovered an adult male 7-Eleven employee suffering from cutting wounds to his neck, chin and wrists.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.  The victim is identified as Abdul Ghaffar, age 63, of the 18500 block of Cherry Laurel Lane in Gaithersburg.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two 7-Eleven employees were in the store when the suspect entered.  The suspect attacked the victim, unprovoked, and the second employee called 911.

The suspect is identified as Shaun David King, age 36.  Detectives have not confirmed his address at this time.  He has been charged with First Degree Murder.

Bus Driver Arrested for Assault

RLemusDetectives from the 1st District Investigative Section have arrested an Olney man for committing second degree assault and fourth degree sex offenses.

Rigoberto Adonay Galindo Lemus, age 47, of the 3300 block of Buehler Court, was arrested on January 9.

On December 17, 2013, an adult female reported to police that she had been assaulted on a Ride On bus in the area of the Shady Grove Metro station.  Investigation revealed that on December 12, 2013, at approximately 5:05 p.m., the victim had been walking on Sommerville Drive when she passed an out-of-service Ride On bus.  The driver of the bus, Lemus, engaged her in conversation and invited her on to the bus to stay warm.  The victim accepted and boarded the bus.

Once on the bus, the victim and Lemus were engaging in a conversation when Lemus inappropriately touched her.  The victim then left the bus and, while exiting, Lemus again inappropriately touched her.

Based on the above, Lemus is charged with two counts of second degree assault and two counts of committing a fourth degree sex offense.  He was released from detention on his own recognizance on January 9.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a bank robbery that occurred on December 7, 2013 at the M&T Bank in Kensington.  Today, detectives are releasing surveillance photographs of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

On December 7, 2013 at approximately 12:56 p.m., officers responded to the M&T Bank located at 10420 Montgomery Avenue in Kensington for the report of a bank robbery.

Investigation revealed that the male suspect entered the bank, produced a handgun, and demanded cash.  The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and exited the bank.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 4o years old, and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.  He wore gloves and a covering over his face.
