Update: Victim Identified in Gaithersburg Homicide

Major CrimesDetectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes division continue to investigate a homicide that occurred yesterday afternoon at 438 N. Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg.

Detectives have identified the victim as Michael Kirby Alvarado, age 25, of the unit block of Benji Court in Gaithersburg.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.  Tips received through the Crime Solvers program may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.  Information can be submitted anonymously by phone or online.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Gaithersburg

policecarDetectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred this afternoon in Gaithersburg.

On November 21 at 2:28 p.m., patrol officers from the 6th District and the Gaithersburg Police Department responded to a reported shooting at 438 N. Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg.  Officers located an adult male on the sidewalk in front of the building.  The victim was suffering from one or more gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two suspects leave the area on foot.  One suspect was described as a black male with a black and white striped shirt.  The other suspect was only described as a black male wearing all black clothing.  The neighborhood and surrounding areas were searched by patrol officers and K-9 teams with the assistance of a Maryland State Police helicopter but the suspects were not located.

The identity of the victim will be released once it is confirmed and next of kin have been notified.

Police Seek Assistance in Locating Suspect Wanted for Theft

deshaDuring the months of October and November 2013, multiple jurisdictions in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including Montgomery County, have experienced a series of pickpocket thefts and thefts by distraction that have occurred at grocery stores. The suspect in these incidents was identified by Montgomery County Police 4th District detectives as Desha Wilkins, age 42, of 2500 Kirkland Avenue in District Heights, Maryland.  Detectives believe that Wilkins may be responsible for approximately 20 pickpocket and fraud incidents in the area.

On November 21, Montgomery County Police served a search warrant at Wilkins’ residence in District Heights.  Wilkins was not at home when the search warrant was served, however evidence linking Wilkins to the crimes was recovered.

Detectives are now releasing a photo of Wilkins and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating her.  She is described as a black female, 5’5″ tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds.  Detectives believe that she is still in the Washington, D.C. area.  Anyone with information regarding Wilkins whereabouts is asked to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at (240) 773-5475.
