Update: Suspect Identified and Charged in Assault on Officer

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 5th District Investigative Section, the Major Crimes Division, and the Internal Affairs Division are continuing to investigate an incident that occurred last night in Damascus in which a man assaulted an officer with a long gun.

Detectives from the 5th District Investigative Section have now charged Michael L. Roberts, age 34, of the 24100 block of Newbury Road in Gaithersburg for the assault.  Roberts has been charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of reckless endangerment.  He has been released on bond.

Attempted Robbery at Cabin John CVS

SealMontgomery County Police-Major Crimes detectives are investigating a commercial armed robbery that occurred at the CVS in the Cabin John Shopping Center.  This morning at approximately 3:51, two suspects entered the CVS store located at 7955 Tuckerman Lane.  The suspects, one displaying a handgun, confronted a store employee and demanded money.  The suspects then ran from the store without obtaining any money.  As the suspects were fleeing, the employee also exited the store.  The suspect with the handgun fired one shot outside the building; no one was struck.

The first suspect, armed with a handgun, is described as a black male in his twenties.  He was wearing a black baseball cap with white insignia, a black hooded sweatshirt with a gray logo, camouflage pants, black tennis shoes, and a fake beard. The second suspect is also described as a black male in his twenties.  He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a black ski mask.

Detectives are considering the possibility that these two suspects were involved in the attempted robbery of the Wells Fargo bank that occurred yesterday in Rockville.

Man in Custody After Assaulting Officer

LightBar2012Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 5th District Investigative Section, the Major Crimes Division, and the Internal Affairs Division are investigating an incident in Damascus where a 34-year-old man assaulted an officer with a long gun.

Today at 5:19 p.m., 5th District patrol officers were dispatched to a residence in the 24100 block of Newbury Road after a woman called 911 to report that her daughter’s boyfriend had become violent and was damaging the house.  The caller and her daughter were able to leave the house prior to police arrival.

When the first officer arrived, he observed a suspect armed with a long gun exiting the front door.  The suspect pointed the weapon at the officer and the officer then discharged his handgun.  Following that, the suspect put the gun down, additional units arrived, and he was taken into custody without further incident.  The suspect was not injured.

The suspect’s identity and charges will be released at a later time.

As is standard procedure, the involved officer, a 9-year veteran of the department, has been placed on paid, administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.

Detectives Investigate Two Bank Robberies in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating two bank robberies that occurred this morning in Rockville.

This morning, at approximately 9:35 a.m., 1st District and Rockville City officers responded to the SunTrust bank located at 1475 Rockville Pike for a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred.  Investigation revealed that a teller from the bank was approached by the suspect as he was about to open the satellite drive-thru of the bank.  The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money.  The teller and the suspect went to the satellite drive-thru where the suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspect then fled from the bank in a vehicle.

At approximately 10:58 a.m., 1st District and Rockville City officers responded to the Wells Fargo bank located at 110 Congressional Lane for a report of a bank robbery.  Investigation revealed that two suspects entered the bank, approached the teller, and demanded money.  One of the suspects then vaulted the counter, and the other suspect fired a shot from a handgun into the ceiling of the bank.  Both suspects then fled from the bank without obtaining any money.  No one was injured during this incident.

At this time, detectives do not believe that the two bank robberies are related.

Detectives Investigate Bank Robbery in Gaithersburg

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a bank robbery that occurred this morning at a Capital One bank in Gaithersburg.

This morning, at approximately 9:11 a.m., 6th District officers responded to the Capital One bank located at 12 Bureau Drive for a report of a bank robbery that had just occurred.  Investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank, approached a teller, and presented a note demanding money.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank.

Detectives have obtained surveillance photos and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect.  The suspect is described as a black male, 5’11” tall, and weighing approximately 240 to 250 pounds.  He was wearing a black hat, a gray zip-up sweatshirt, and gray sweatpants.
