Today, as part of a series of pedestrian enforcement “stings”, officers from the Traffic Division conducted pedestrian enforcement in the 6300 block of Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda.  From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m :

77 traffic citations were issued

56 drivers were issued citations for failing to stop for a pedestrian crossing the roadway in a crosswalk

1 person arrested and charged with a drug offense

During this pedestrian enforcement, plain clothes officers dressed in bright clothing cross the street in marked crosswalks.  Officers stop vehicles that do not yield to the plain clothes officers or other pedestrians in the crosswalk, and drivers are issued citations.  General traffic law is also enforced.  Traffic Division officers will continue this type of pedestrian enforcement throughout the month of May.

**Members of the media are encouraged to attend these periods of enforcement.  For future times and locations, please call the Public Information Office at 240-773-5030.**
