On August 6 at approximately 5:50 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the parking lot of 13313 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring for the report of an armed robbery that just occurred.
Investigation by detectives revealed that the 46-year-old victim was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of 13313 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring (the temporary location of Glenallan Elementary School). The suspect approached the victim’s vehicle, pointed a handgun at the victim, and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect money and the suspect stated, “Let’s go to the bank to get more money.” The suspect then entered the rear passenger door (sitting directly behind the victim). The suspect placed a gun to the back of the victim’s head and told the victim not to turn around. The victim was ordered to drive to a bank and the suspect began to give driving directions.
At the corner of Fairland Road and Copland Road in the Calverton area of Silver Spring, the suspect exited the vehicle with the victim’s cell phone and the suspect ordered the victim to drive away from the area. The victim observed the suspect throw the victim’s cellular phone and then take off running down the street. The victim drove a short distance and then returned to retrieve his cell phone. He then called police. Officers circulated the area in an effort to locate the suspect but he was not located.
Personnel from the Forensic Service Section (FSS) processed the victim’s vehicle for latent prints and DNA. Prints believed to belong to the suspect were obtained from the vehicle and sent to a regional fingerprint database (RAFIS). Detectives received a fingerprint match to MARCUS ANTONIO CURRY, age 19, of an unconfirmed address.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Curry on August 31, charging him with 12 crimes to include : armed carjacking, armed robbery, first degree assault, kidnapping, and numerous gun charges. Curry turned himself into investigators on September 21. Curry was wearing a DC Pre-Trial Services ankle bracelet equipped with GPS. This GPS information placed Curry in the area of the robbery.
Curry is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on $300,000 bond.
